Fiorentina Renew Italiano, Target Trio of Midfielders

After some tension, Fiorentina and Vincenzo Italiano have come to terms on an extension. The coach has put pen to paper earlier today. He has added another year to his contract, which will run through 2024. The club will have an option to tack on one further season.

As per La Nazione, the gaffer will almost double his wages, going from €900k to €1.7M. He had reportedly asked for more at first, but the parties were eventually able to strike a deal. The boss led the Viola to their best finish in years in 2021/2022 despite losing the best player, Dusan Vlahovic, in January.

Fiorentina reportedly promised Italiano at least four purchases, including a goalkeeper and a striker. According to Sky, the Gigliati are pursuing Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. He is likely to leave since the Granata will onboard Gabriel from Lecce. If he joined, he would challenge Pietro Terracciano for the starting job. Moreover, the acquisition of Luka Jovic from Real Madrid is gaining steam. The two teams are discussing how to split his wages during the loan.

The Viola also need reinforcements in the midfield, having lost Lucas Torreira and with Gaetano Castrovilli out for multiple months with a knee injury. They are eyeing Empoli’s Nedim Bajrami and former Genoa loanee Nadiem Amiri for the role of dynamic box-to-box, the outlet adds. Rolando Mandragora has jumped atop the shortlist of deep-lying midfielders. Torino did not activate their option to buy him out from Juventus, but they are still trying to retain him, Calciomercato informs. The Gigliati are reportedly offering more.

Our Take on Fiorentina Prolonging Italiano

For a moment it looked like the Viola were heading towards another coaching fiasco, but the positive resolution will allow the brilliant up-and-comer to build on an impressive campaign.
