Fiorentina Hold Off Roma, Win Race to Onboard Beltran

Roma tried to overtake Fiorentina at the last corner to purchase Lucas Beltran, but he’s indeed headed to the Viola. The Giallorossi worked primarily on the player’s front by offering a larger salary. But their bid to River Plate was lower, Corriere dello Sport informs.

Tiago Pinto proposed €2.5M wages, roughly half a million more than their competitors. On the other hand, the Gigliati had sealed the deal with River Plate thanks to a €25M offer plus a percentage of a future sale. Instead, the capital club tendered €20M.

Beltran is about to fly to Italy and will likely complete his transfer to Fiorentina over the weekend, while Roma will have to find their new striker elsewhere. The Argentine is replacing Arthur Cabral and will team up with fellow newcomer M’Bala Nzola.

The Giallorossi are chasing after Marcos Leonardo, but the talks with Santos have taken a turn for the worse, as they no longer want to sell the starlet, Gianluca Di Marzio relays. On the other hand, the attacker is holding out because he wants to depart.

Our Take on Fiorentina, Roma, and Beltran

The Viola are obtaining great results by doing things early and by the book, and the recent cash infusion obviously helps. As for La Lupa, it was worth a shot. Their attempt doesn’t spell good news as far as their chase of the Brazilian prodigy is concerned.
