Having resisted temptation from the Premier League, Nicolas González has made a brilliant start to the 2023/24 campaign, knocking in 7 goals and registering 2 assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. As an indispensable part of Fiorentina, both Rocco Commisso and Vincenzo Italiano rejected any talk of Gonzalez exiting the club, and it is unlikely he will leave anytime soon.
González recently etched a record for the Argentina national team, with the Albiceleste going 28 consecutive games undefeated in his presence, beating the likes of Gabriel Batistuta and Exequiel Palacios – something even Lionel Messi failed to do. While his clout for Argentina goes without saying, the Viola seem to have planned their future around the sleek-footed winger.
Brentford and Leicester City made sizeable offers for González in the summer, and English giants Liverpool and Chelsea have expressed their interest as well. The latter duo even sent their scouts to Stadio Artemio Franchi on several occasions, as per Calciomercato, but it will undoubtedly take more than his assigned value of €55-60M to grab Commisso’s attention.
González played a key role in Fiorentina’s run to the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League finals last campaign. Italiano sees the Argentine as a crucial element if they are to aim for a top-four Serie A finish this season.

Arguably one of Fiorentina’s best investments in recent memory, González has proved essential in playing a part to up the Viola’s quality. With a contract expiring in 2028, Fiorentina have the leverage to keep hold of him, but suitors are certainly warned of the fees they will have to spill.
