Fiorentina in Advanced Talks for Arsenal Outcast Currently Loaned Out

Lucas Torreira has seen limited action during his loan spell at Atletico Madrid and is poised to return to Arsenal in the summer. He will quickly be on the move again as Fiorentina are nearing an agreement to bring in back to Serie A, Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The Viola, which already pursued him in the past, plan to pair him up with Sofyan Amrabat in their future midfield.

Torreira made his professional debut at Pescara before fully blossoming at Sampdoria and eventually moving to the Gunners in 2018 for €28M. He was a regular in his first season in London, but things changed once Mikel Arteta took over since the coach preferred other options in the midfield.

He joined the Colchoneros on a loan with option to buy in October, however he has featured just 11 times so far, making only 3 starts and failing to impress, so he is highly unlikely to be retained. It is not known yet whether Fiorentina are looking to purchase him outright or if they are trying to add him with a similar formula.

The outlet indicated that the Gigliati are also working to extend the contract of their break-out star Dusan Vlahovic, which currently expires in 2023. The front office is negotiating to tack on two more years and to almost double his wages. While the player intends to stay, his representatives would like the new deal to be shorter and include a release clause, so the two sides are not close to an agreement.
