Fiorentina in Advanced Talks to Bring Piatek Back to Italy

Fiorentina are on the brink of reaching an agreement to acquire Krzysztof Piatek. They are finalizing the terms of the deal with Hertha Berlin. The Viola will bring him in on an initial loan with option to buy. It does not appear the addition will affect the short-term future of Dusan Vlahovic.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the two sides will strike a deal at around €16/18M on the clause to sign him permanently next summer. Piatek picked Fiorentina over Genoa, which insistently tried to orchestrate a reunion in the last few days.

The Viola were looking for a backup striker, as Aleksandr Kokorin has been a non-factor so far. With the move, they will be able to assess whether the Polish gunslinger could be a viable replacement for Vlahovic. The Serbian star remains more likely to depart at the end of the season than during the winter, both Pedullà and Fabrizio Romano inform.

Piatek will be hoping to relive his glory days at Fiorentina. Genoa originally purchased him after he broke out with Cracovia. He shined in his first Serie A season in 2018-2019, bagging 13 goals. However, he has not had as much success at his following stops. He scored 16 times in 41 appearances with Milan, failing to live up to expectations and to his €35M price tag. The 26-year-old has often been plagued by injury during his stay at Hertha Berlin. He has hit the net on 13 occasions in 58 matches in the past two campaigns.
