Manchester United have decided against triggering a €20 million purchase clause in Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal with Fiorentina. According to Fabrizio Romano, Erik ten Hag ‘likes’ the player and could make a new attempt to lure him back to Old Trafford on different terms.
Amrabat left Fiorentina to join the Red Devils on a season-long loan on the final day of the last summer transfer window. He was long on Man United’s radar before they finally agreed on his temporary switch toward the end of the summer of 2023. Yet, he failed to live up to the billing.
The 27-year-old amassed 27 Premier League appearances last season but only made ten starts. However, his form soared at the tail-end of the 2023/24 campaign, throwing him a lifeline at the Theatre of Dreams. For the moment, though, he’ll return to Fiorentina.
Man United won’t touch his excessive buy option. But that doesn’t mean Amrabat will not return to England. His contract at Fiorentina runs out at the end of next season. Therefore, Ten Hag’s side may apply pressure on the Tuscan outfit to lower their demands.
Fiorentina will try to cash in on Amrabat in the coming weeks. In addition to Man United, several other clubs have displayed interest in the Morocco international. New manager Raffaele Palladino bids to overhaul his squad and needs to raise funds to finance his recruitment plans.
Nikola Milenkovic’s move to Nottingham Forest poured €12 million into La Viola’s bank accounts. Before the Serbian, Alfred Duncan, Arthur Melo, Giacomo Bonaventura, and Gaetano Castrovilli had left Fiorentina as free agents.
