Fiorentina Launch Official Bid for Standout Genoa Star

Beaten Europa Conference League finalists Fiorentina have reportedly lodged an official bid for sought-after Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, La Viola pitched the Griffins with a tangible offer for the Iceland international on Friday, having earmarked him as the top priority to replace Nicolas Gonzalez.

Fiorentina tabled a €5 million proposal to sign the 27-year-old loan with an obligation to buy. If Alberto Gilardino’s men find the Tuscan’s approach acceptable, Raffaele Palladino’s team will fork out a further €20m to capture Gudmundsson’s signature permanently at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

While Genoa are open to letting Gudmundsson go on loan with a mandatory buyout option, they’re reportedly keen to earn more for the Icelandic star’s temporary switch to the Stadio Artemio Franchi. As such, Fiorentina have grown confident about closing the deal on short notice as they prepare for life after Nico Gonzalez.

The 2024 Copa America winner has drawn interest from Atalanta and Juventus. Despite landing Nicolo Zaniolo, Gian Piero Gasperini’s charges have set their sights on the Fiorentina talisman. However, they’d need to overcome stiff competition from the Bianconeri after Thiago Motta identified Gonzalez as Federico Chiesa’s heir in Turin.

It’s now a near-certainty that the former Fiorentina winger will leave the Allianz Stadium. Motta left Chiesa out of his squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Brest. It’s become clear that Motta doesn’t see the Italy international as part of his plans, which could lead to Gonzalez’s switch to Juventus.
