Fiorentina icon Giancarlo Antognoni has asked for calm after the Viola’s fantastic start to the season, where Vincenzo Italiano’s men dispatched Genoa with a 4-1 scoreline. The 1975 Coppa Italia winner also gave his thoughts on Fiorentina’s exploits this summer in the transfer market and hailed Fabiano Parisi’s signing as the best one this summer.
Antognoni dished out his thoughts in an exclusive to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via ViolaNews).
“Fiorentina seems to have started with a bang, but I would wait a bit to say it, because we take off immediately, then suffer disappointments. But if the Viola wants to make the leap, we’ve to win something after losing two finals. And move up the league table.”
The 69-year-old also spoke in length regarding the window’s star acquisitions.
“M’Bala Nzola? He’s ideal for playing proper football: he opens gaps and lets the others score. Lucas Beltran? Daniel Bertoni told me that he looks more like Giacomo Raspadori, he’s not a first striker, but we will see. The best buy? For me Parisi. I often saw Empoli last season, great talent. He would play starter anywhere. But here it’s hard to take captain Cristiano Biraghi’s place away, now that he also scored with his right foot. Number 10? In the right case give it to Nico, he’s the star.”
The Viola will look to make waves this season after consecutive heartbreaks last season at the hands of Inter and West Ham United in the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League respectively.
