Fiorentina Negotiating to Onboard Wolfsburg Winger

Fiorentina most likely won’t sell Nicolas Gonzalez in January, but they might add a forward nonetheless, and they have zeroed in on Josip Brekalo. He turned down a permanent move to Torino last summer. However, he was unable to find a better destination afterward. He stayed at Wolfburg with a limited role.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Croat, who is also Monza and Getafe’s radars, has signed off on the move. The clubs are working to come to an understanding. His agents want a sizeable commission, which gave pause to other suitors.

Per Corriere dello Sport, Wolfsburg asks for €3M to sell Brekalo, who is on an expiring deal, while Fiorentina offered €1.5M plus a percentage of a future sale. The parties aren’t particularly distant, but the Gigliati have reservations due to his contractual status. In addition, he hasn’t played much this season. Dinamo Zagreb are in the running too. They are trying to bring him back home, Tuttomercatoweb reports.

Per SportMediaset, the Viola are considering offloading Luka Jovic in January. While they might pursue a striker if it happened, adding the ex-Granata forward would allow them to use Christian Kouamé or Nicolas Gonzalez centrally.

Our Take on Fiorentina and Brekalo

He has been a misfit this season, but he was pretty effective in his previous Serie A spell, and he’s cheap and still pretty young. He’d be a good addition, and not just for them. But their biggest need is a prolific no.9, as it would properly lift them. Kouamé has been good centrally, but he’s not a goal-poacher.
