Fiorentina have completed the acquisition of Josip Brekalo over the weekend, but they might not stop there, as they are eyeing Abdelhamid Sabiri, although he’d come over only in the summer. Sampdoria rejected their opening offer, but the two sides aren’t that far on the numbers.

Per Gianluca di Marzio, the Viola tendered €2M to secure the player right away and leave him on loan for the rest of the season. The Blucerchiati asked for €2M more. There’ll be new contacts between the parties Monday. The sellers will have a meeting of the board later today.

If successful, Fiorentina would pull off with Sabiri the same operation they did in the past with Sofyan Amrabat. They don’t seem to have much competition for the Moroccan midfielder, who has struggled amid his side’s woes this season. He has scored just once in 13 matches, missing time due to injury on multiple occasions.

Instead, the 26-year-old fared better in the past campaign, his maiden one in Serie A, registering 3 goals and 2 assists in 14 appearances since January on. He has logged one helper in five caps with Morocco during the World Cup.

Our Take on Fiorentina and Sampdoria

The Viola already have Giacomo Bonaventura and Antonin Barak as inventive midfielders, but the fee is very low and well worth the risk. They need depth if they want to go places. He’d predictably perform much better in a more technical outfit that doesn’t fight for relegation. He could use an attitude adjustment, as his effort is lacking sometimes. Vincenzo Italiano takes no prisoners in that regard, though.
