Fiorentina Owner Commisso Passionately Defends His Men

The Fiorentina fans booed and sneered at the team following the loss to Bologna, and president Rocco Commisso decided to stick up for them to Radio Bruno (via Calciomercato).

“I have to defend them. The players get denigrated daily. The grades would be different had we scored that late goal. It’s my turn to do them now, and I’d like to give a two to many journalists. We don’t have to consider just Serie A, but the cups as well. Our numbers are better there. It’s true that the stats aren’t good domestically. Nobody is more bitter than I am for what happened versus Bologna. But you can’t say that the lads are heroes one day and washouts the other. I’ve heard unfair chants. They happen after every defeat, and that’s unacceptable.”

Commisso denied that Fiorentina is up for sale.

“You’ll know it when it is. I wish these rumors stopped. We have invested €400M in four years. Nobody has every done it. The fans should lash out at me, since I’m the one calling the shots. Don’t blame Daniele Pradè, Joe Barone, or Vincenzo Italiano. They don’t deserve this level of disrespect.”

“Big teams like Milan and Napoli were eliminated in Coppa Italia, and some say our roster doesn’t perform as it should. I can’t let imbecile journalists get away with it. They even called me mafioso, and there was just a pointless statement about it. These things don’t happen the United States.”

“Football is sick, and I’ve been saying it for a long time. We always abided by the rules, while others took shortcuts. You need more control on owners. Teams that play in the Champions League get helped with their balance sheets.”
