Fiorentina Owner Stalls Nico Gonzalez Sale to Juventus

The acquisition of Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa hasn’t led to the immediate departure of Nico Gonzalez, who’s being chased by Juventus and Atalanta. The Icelandic star sealed his move over the weekend. Fiorentina will pay €28M between the initial fee, the obligation to buy, and bonuses.

According to Tuttosport, their owner Rocco Commisso would rather not sell another star to the Bianconeri after Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic. He’d give his greenlight only for a massive valuation and an outright permanent transfer.

Juventus reached an agreement in principle with the Fiorentina directors on a loan with a conditioned mandatory option to buy about €35M for Nico Gonzalez. The patron dislikes the formula and would like to cash in a few more million.

The Argentine will bolt and wants to move to Turin due to a previous promise by the club. He has come to terms on a long-term contract with €3.6M annual wages. He wasn’t called up for the opener because of the negotiation. Atalanta remain in the picture while the Teun Koopmeiners saga is still ongoing.

Our Take on Fiorentina, Juventus, and Nico Gonzalez

It’s mostly a negotiating tactic, but, unless La Dea seriously swoops in with a larger bid, which could happen only after they finally agree to sell their star, a few bonuses and tweaks in the proposal should get the deal across the line. The rivals surely aren’t doing the Old Lady any favors timing-wise.
