Fiorentina Plan Summer Swoop for Injury-Prone Inter Star

Fiorentina are reportedly assessing the possibility of launching a bid for injury-prone Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi. According to Corriere dello Sport, the Italian playmaker has become a concrete transfer target for Viola amid uncertainty surrounding his future in Lombardy.

Sensi joined Inter initially on a season-long loan from Sassuolo in summer 2019 before the Nerazzurri triggered an option to turn his move permanent last summer for €25million. However, the 25-year-old’s early life at the Giuseppe Meazza has been highlighted by injuries, with the midfielder recording just four Serie A starts this past season.

Despite his recurring injury problems, Sensi managed Roberto Mancini’s squad for the recently finished Euro 2020. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from Italy’s title-winning team due to injury as he currently works on regaining full fitness ahead of the new season.

Simone Inzaghi, who replaced Antonio Conte at the helm earlier in the summer, apparently wants Sensi to remain at Inter and fight for a place in the starting line-up. Although the Nerazzurri are not willing to offload the creative midfielder, they might have a change of heart if Fiorentina come up with the right offer.

The Tuscan giants are keen to bolster their squad in the ongoing transfer window following an underwhelming 2020/21 campaign. They spent most of last season hovering in the bottom half of the table, and the new additions are necessary if they are to avoid another scary campaign.

Vincenzo Italiano has the likes of Gaetano Castrovilli and Giacomo Bonaventura at his disposal. Still, he wants another technically gifted midfielder in a bid to get his team challenging higher up the table next season. Sensi ticks many of the boxes for the type of player Fiorentina boss is looking to recruit, but convincing Inter to sanction the deal could be rather daunting.
