Fiorentina Present Improved Offer for Genoa Stalwart

Back-to-back Europa Conference League runners-up Fiorentina are reportedly on the cusp of signing Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Tuscan outfit’s latest offer misses the Griffins’ valuation of their most prized asset by the slightest of margins.

After seeing their opening bid rejected, Fiorentina have contacted Alberto Gilardino’s side with an improved proposal. La Viola offered the Luigi Ferraris side a €7 million fee for an initial loan, with a mandatory buyout clause set at €18m. That’s narrowly off Genoa’s requests, increasing the likelihood of Gudmundsson’s switch to Artemio Franchi.

Genoa will take some time to re-evaluate the second bid. There’s a good chance they’ll say ‘yes‘ to Fiorentina. But they’ll more likely return with a counter-proposal to fine-tune the agreement. Either way, the 27-year-old seems agonizingly close to joining forces with Raffaele Palladino’s new-look squad.

Gudmundsson’s impending arrival implies Nicolas Gonzalez could leave Fiorentina in the coming weeks. The Argentine has yet to hold ‘showdown talks‘ with the club management amid speculation linking him with Atalanta and Juventus. But the Florence team’s relentless pursuit of the Iceland international speaks volumes.

Indeed, Fiorentina seem to be preparing for life after the quicksilver forward. Palladino’s men have leapfrogged Inter and Juventus in the race to sign Gudmundsson. That perhaps best illustrates Gonzalez’s current situation at the club. Heavily linked with a move to Turin, the 2024 Copa America winner could soon pack his bags.

But there’s no doubt that Gudmundsson would be a massive coup for Fiorentina.
