Fiorentina Set to Continue Pursuing Penarol Ace Alvarez

Fiorentina signed two strikers in January, Krzysztof Piatek and Arthur Cabral, but they have not ceased tracking Augustin Alvarez. The Viola have managed to stay afloat following the departure of Dusan Vlahovic. However, neither of the two center-forwards has been particularly impressive.

The Polish gunslinger has had more consistency. He has bagged 6 goals in ten games, equally split between Serie A play and Coppa Italia. He has seen the lion’s share of playing time at the position thus far. Instead, the ex-Basilea marksman has hit the net once and provided one assist in five total appearances. He has featured in a total of 172 minutes.

Penarol president Ignacio Ruglio told Sport890 that they would have a summit with Fiorentina to discuss Alvarez in April: “We will meet with them next month. He is dealing with an injury, but it is not too severe, and he will be back in about ten days.â€

The Viola tried to seal the deal to add him in the summer in the final days of January already. However, they ultimately could not come to terms with Penarol, Gianluca Di Marzio informs. The 20-year-old has tallied 33 goals and 9 assists in 75 matches with Los Manyas.

Alvarez was rumored to be on Milan and Inter radar too, but Fiorentina moved decisively in the previous window and seem to have maintained their lead. While Arthur Cabral joined on a €14M move, Piatek is currently on loan from Hertha Berlin. The front office will have to make the call on his €15M buy-out option.
