Fiorentina Set to Resume Talks with Household Goalkeeper

Beaten Europa Conference League finalists Fiorentina have reportedly renewed their interest in former Manchester United goalkeeper. Unemployed since severing ties with the Red Devils last summer, the veteran could land at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, according to Sportitalia via FirenzaViola.
Recently approached by Genoa, De Gea is seemingly open to continuing his career in Serie A. However, the 33-year-old’s wage demands have blown the Griffins out of the water, clearing the path for Fiorentina to jump in and take the Spaniard to Tuscany.
Fiorentina had thought about poaching De Gea earlier in the summer. But they’ve placed their interest on hold while negotiating more significant pieces of business. After completing the arrival of Moise Kean and laying the groundwork for a deal for Venezia’s Tanner Tessmann, they’re ready to meet De Gea’s representatives again.
Any agreement would likely require the famous shot-stopper to lower his salary requests. With Pietro Terracciano being the only reliable option between the sticks, De Gea would be a welcoming boost for Fiorentina. His experience and undeniable quality would bolster Raffaele Palladino’s ranks.
Speaking of improvements, Fiorentina have already added Marin Pongracic, Andrea Colpani, and Kean to the team. However, Atalanta and Juventus are threatening to deprive Palladino of Nicolas Gonzalez’s services, with the latter particularly interested in taking the Argentine to Turin.
Gonzalez will soon hold a crunch meeting with the Fiorentina hierarchy to determine his fate, but there’s a good chance he’ll depart Tuscany in the coming weeks.
