Fiorentina Set to Sign Superstar Goalkeeper on Bosman Deal

Superstar goalkeeper David de Gea has reportedly agreed on personal terms to join Fiorentina on a short-term deal as he prepares to return to competitive football. According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Manchester United goalkeeper will sign a one-year contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Fiorentina thought about hiring De Gea when his contract at Old Trafford expired last summer. However, negotiations between the parties never gained momentum, with the veteran star ending up on the sidelines for over 12 months.

De Gea’s whopping £375,000-per-week at Man Utd made it impossible for Fiorentina and other European clubs to pursue his signature. Therefore, a move to Saudi Arabia emerged as a potential scenario at the start of the summer.

But the 33-year-old’s decision to stay in Europe helped Raffaele Palladino’s team pull off a massive agreement. After a lengthy spell out of action, he’s ready to return to football, with Fiorentina enthusiastic about adding the Spaniard to their ranks.

Pietro Terracciano was the only reliable goalkeeping option last season. But Palladino’s arrival has changed the Italian’s status at the club, with the former Monza manager forcing Fiorentina to sign another dependable shot-stopper.

De Gea’s agreement with Fiorentina contains an option of another season, though it’s performance-related. The star keeper’s impending arrival could soften the blow of Nicolas Gonzalez’s inevitable exit. The Argentine is keen to join Juventus after the Bianconeri identified him as a replacement for outgoing winger Federico Chiesa.

Fiorentina could earn around €30m from that sale.
