Fiorentina Sign Mandragora and Change Terms for Jovic

Fiorentina announced the acquisition of Rolando Mandragora and are closing in on Luka Jovic. The newcomer will contribute to replacing Lucas Torreira in the midfield. Instead, differently from previous reports, the Serbian marksman is joining on a permanent deal.

The Viola bested Torino in the race to sign the midfielder. The Granata did not pick up their option to buy but were trying to purchase him from Juventus anyway. The rival beat them to the punch and will pay €9M. The sum will probably be simply docked by the many installments of the Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa deals. The 25-year-old has also played for Genoa, Crotone and Udinese in Serie A, recording 8 goals and 8 assists in 151 total appearances.

Fiorentina have lined up Jovic as their next addition after securing Mandragora. As per Sky, it will be an outright transfer and not a loan. Real Madrid will release him from his contract and give him a robust severance package. The striker will ink a two-year contract and earn €2.5M per season. In 2024, he will either leave on a free or activate a clause to extend it until 2026, with his wages increasing to €5M annually. If he were sold, Los Merengues would get half of the fee.

Our Take on Fiorentina Signing Mandragora and Jovic

Two solid choices with some element of risk. The former has had some injury problems in recent years, but he is a steady hand. Interestingly, they did not go for a pure regista but rather for a grittier player. He is similar to Sofyan Amrabat in that regard, so they will have consistency in the rotation. The added muscles will allow them to bring in an offensive box-to-box. The latter is a gamble, but not an expensive one considering the conditions.
