Fiorentina Start Pursuing River Plate Sensation but Milan Are Ahead

Fiorentina have joined Milan in the race for Julian Alvarez. The River Plate attacker is in high demand, and he might be on the move in January already. The Rossoneri remain the most interested side, though. They could try to beat the competition with a €20M offer during the winter session, TNT Sports reports.

Alvarez has drawn rave reviews for his performances this season. He has collected 15 goals and 13 assists in 39 matches, shining in particular in the Superclasico. The 21-year-old striker can feature in a few offensive roles. He has four caps with his national team.

Fiorentina technical director Nicolas Burdisso spoke about Alvarez in an interview with La Nacion: “Any Argentinian learns a lot when he arrives in Europe. For instance, he gets to know that he will not play a lot at first. Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo De Paul are good examples in that regard. I think that he is the only one currently ready to make the leap. He has been at elite levels for two or three years, and he is in his prime. He is a fully developed player and is set for a bigger challenge.”

Burdisso was appointed by Fiorentina last summer: “They called me because I gained credibility over the years, both as a player and outside the pitch. This is a very meritocratic job. I noticed that the city is very akin to the character of Argentinians. I joined when they were already in advanced talks to acquire Nicolas Gonzalez, and I put my stamp on the signing.”
