Five Serie A Transfers that Went Under The Radar This Summer

Since the beginning of the summer transfer market, Serie A fans have been busy tracking the moves of the biggest stars in the market. Sadly for Italian football, several top players packed their bags towards brighter and richer destinations – including the MVP of last season, Romelu Lukaku, and the winner of the best defender in the league award, Cristian Romero.

Amidst the chaos that is taking place inside and outside the Italian peninsula, some Serie A clubs were able to secure the signatures of some relatively high profile players. These operations were perhaps shadowed by some bigger events at the time and thus went more or less unnoticed.

So let’s have a look at five Serie A transfers that went under the radar thus far this summer.

5- Nicolas Gonzalez (Fiorentina)

Although most Serie A fans might have read about this move somewhere, it should be noted that this operation remains one of the biggest transfers conducted by an Italian club this summer based the the figure (23 million euros).

Whilst this fact highlights the league’s dire financial state, Fiorentina were able to complete an impressive piece of business nonetheless.

The 23-year-old Argentine primarily plays as a left winger, and he should be a capable replacement for the departing Franck Ribery.

4- Zinho Vanheusden (Inter)

This one was a “blink and you’ll miss it” type of deals. Despite their torrid summer, Inter at least managed to re-sign a promising defender.

The Belgian initially made the move to the Nerazzurri back in 2015, joining the club’s youth ranks, but eventually returned to Standard Liege.

Nonetheless, after an impressing stint in his home country, the Italian champions paid 16 millions to bring back the 22-year-old, who’s set to play at Genoa on loan next season.

Keep an eye on this one.

3- Simy (Salernitana)

After an incredible scoring run last season with Crotone, the Nigerian gained the status of an urban legend amongst the Calabrian fans.

Despite being linked with a host of European clubs – including Fabio Paratici’s Tottenham – the striker will once again fight for the case of a small southern club that is hoping to survive amongst the big sharks – although the deal is yet to be officially announced.

2- Felipe Anderson (Lazio)

After an entertaining first spell in the Italian capital between 2013 and 2018, one would have thought that the Brazilian’s comeback to Lazio would have a much bigger impact in the media.

However, it seems that his uninspiring time in London has turned off the hype that used to surround the talented winger.

Unfortunately for the returning star, he’s having a tough time convincing Maurizio Sarri, as he’s yet to charm the stubborn manager.

1- Matteo Lovato (Atalanta)

Following his breakthrough campaign at Hellas Verona, the young center back became one of the hottest prospects in the country, and was linked with transfers towards several top Serie A clubs, including Juventus and Milan.

However, Atalanta once again snatched yet another promising gem. Strangely enough, the move went completely under the radar.

La Dea sold Romero to Spurs and brought in Merih Demiral from the Bianconeri to replace him. Nevertheless, the Italian youngster could be the surprise package of the season, especially if Gian Piero Gasperini manages to work his magic upon him.
