Flamengo Veteran Keen to Join Inter

It is now a near-certainty that the Inter backline will undergo massive changes in the summer transfer window. After the likes of Nikola Milenkovic and Gleison Bremer, the Nerazzurri have recently been linked with a move for David Luiz.

According to Calciomercato, the Brazilian defender’s representatives have pitched Inter with the prospect of taking their client back to Europe. After an illustrious European career at Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, Luiz returned to his homeland in September 2021.

Luiz signed for Flamengo last year. However, he already wants out. In order to fulfil his wish, his entourages have reached out to Inter to discuss a potential summer move.

The 35-year-old’s contract in Rio de Janeiro runs out in December. It means he should be available on a cut-price deal this summer. On top of that, Luiz is ready to force his way back to Europe. And Inter are his favourite destination.

It is only a matter of time before Milan Skriniar completes his big-money switch to Paris Saint-Germain. But he may not be the only Inter centre-back to exit Giuseppe Meazza this summer. Indeed, Manchester United have added Stefan de Vrij to their list of targets recently.

An imminent exodus in defence will force Inter to empty their pockets to fill the void. Milenkovic and Bremer are the club’s top targets. However, both players carry significant price tags. So, the most plausible solution is to sign one of them.

But it won’t be enough. Simone Inzaghi is unwilling to give up on his three-man backline. And it would require Inter to bring in at least two dependable defensive options. That improves Luiz’s chances of moving to Serie A in the coming months.

Before jumping to a conclusion, let’s see how things will work out for de Vrij. The Dutchman’s potential departure would open space for Luiz or any other defender for that matter.
