Former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea Star Moving to Serie B

Cesc Fabregas is headed to Italy, but not to a Serie A team, as he is about to sign with Como. He is a currently a free agent after three years at Monaco. The 35-year-old will ink a contract until 2024 with the Lariani, Corriere della Sera relays.

CEO Dennis Wise was key in talking the midfielder into joining. The conversations began well before his deal with the Principality club expired. The executive has played for multiple English teams and served as Newcastle’s top director between 2008 and 2009.

Como will look to boost their chances of arriving to Serie A by signing Fabregas. They finished 13th in the most recent season, which was the second one at such level after getting promoted from the third division. They last played in the top one in 2001/2002.

The Biancoblù are backed by the Indonesian tycoons Robert and Micheal Hartono. Forbes ranked them 86th and 89th respectively in their 2021’s chart of the wealthiest people in the world. They are worth €40B combined. They took over the club three years ago, although without making splashy moves before this one.

Como came close to signing Jack Wilshere, who had come in to train, last summer and did convince Fabregas this time out. The Spanish star has starred for Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea during the course of his illustrious career. He won the World Cup once and two European Championships with his national teams. He took home the Premier League twice and La Liga once, among several trophies.
