Following Inter’s frustrating 3-2 defeat to Milan over the weekend, the former Nerazzurri defender Beppe Bergomi provided his personal insight on the Milanese spectacle while airing on Sky Italia.
Despite Inter starting off on the front foot following Marcelo Brozovic’s opener, Inzaghi’s side fell apart following Rafael Leao’s equalizer. His squad seemed to be in total distraught, allowing the rising Portuguese star to set up Giroud and score a brace in order to seal all three points at the San Siro.
With the quality and experience La Beneamata possess, the Inter legend was quite disappointed in the way his former side crumbled under pressure.
“Until the equalizer, Inter were in control. Milan always have difficulty against Inter, they were out of shape due to the movement of Tonali, and found themselves outnumbered in certain areas of the pitch.”
“I’s underline one thing, there was a lack of mental strength. They conceded the goal for 1-1 and then they seemed to leave the game for the end of the first half and the start of the second.”
“Then they got back into it after the substitutions, and could have even deserved a draw, but everything else is cause for worry. It’s one thing to concede an equalizer, but then you have to stay in the game.”
