Former Juventus vice-captain Adrien Rabiot finds himself in uncharted territory as he is still without a club due to his insane financial appetite. According to Calciomercato, Rabiot’s mother, Veronique, ‘dictates’ his future as she insists on prohibitive wage and commission requests.
Rabiot parted with Juventus at the end of last season despite the club’s best effort to renew his expiring contract. The 29-year-old midfielder let his deal in Turin run down, deeming Bianconeri’s generous contract offer worth €7 million net per season insufficient.
Juventus genuinely tried to extend the Frenchman’s deal but to no avail. Aware of the situation, Milan hoped to swoop in and lure Rabiot to San Siro. However, their effort came a cropper as the player’s mother agent, Veronique, rebuffed their proposal of a two-year deal worth €5.5m per season.
Turkish giants Galatasaray and several Saudi Pro League clubs faced the same response. The former Juventus ace turned them down as he aims to stay in Europe’s top-five leagues. But no team from the continent’s elite divisions has shown interest in matching his salary demands.
Rabiot informed Juventus of his lofty €10m-a-year wage requests during renewal talks. Now that the record-time Serie A champions are no longer in the picture, the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star asks for a substantial €15m signing bonus. That’s not to mention that Veronique expects a hefty commission.
As things stand, it may take a while before Rabiot finds a new accommodation. His decision to leave Juventus has proved unwise.
