Former Juventus Surplus Player Tracked by Napoli

Daniele Rugani was able to pick his destination last summer and eventually chose Ajax despite some interest from Saudi Arabia, Bologna, and Napoli. A move to the Partenopei will be an option in the future too. His agent Davide Torchia spoke with Radio Kiss Kiss.

“I can only say that their director Giovanni Manna likes him. In the end, he joined a historic club. I spent 15 days there, and they are very organized. Francesco Farioli is one to watch, as he’s super prepared despite his young age.”

Torchia explained why Rugani transferred to Ajax.

“We liked it a lot that they started calling us in late July. They made an effort to sign him, and we appreciated that.”

The agent also said his piece about the new-look Napoli helmed by Antonio Conte.

“They’ll be one of those that will put together a winning streak all of sudden. They have squad filled with quality; plus, they have the right leader and high-level management.”

Rugani headed to Ajax on loan with no option to buy from Juventus; therefore, his future remains wide open. It’s his third temporary spell in another team since the Bianconeri signed him, as he previously spent time at Stade Rennes and Cagliari. He’s under contract with the Old Lady until 2026. Napoli added Alessandro Buongiorno and Rafa Marin to their defense last summer but didn’t bring in a third new center-back as expected initially.
