Former Torino Ace Ditches Inter to Join Real Betis

Former Torino captain Ricardo Rodriguez will not join Inter despite intense speculation linking him with a move to Giuseppe Meazza this summer. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the Swiss defender is on the cusp of inking a short-term contract at Real Betis.

Rodriguez will land in Andalusia later today to undergo his medical before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal. He will join Los Verdiblancos as a free agent after running down his contract at Torino. Recently linked with a switch to Inter, Rodriguez spent four years in Turin after swapping Milan for the Granata in 2020.

During his four-year stint at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, the 31-year-old became a fan favorite, earning the captain’s armband for his leadership skills and unparalleled commitment. However, Ivan Juric’s departure proved the end of Rodriguez’s career in Serie A, even though Inter had considered throwing the ex-Wolfsburg left-back a lifeline.

Pressured to address the shortage of numbers at the back following Tajon Buchanan’s injury, Inter had thought about Rodriguez as a potential low-cost solution. But Beppe Marotta’s hesitance has returned to haunt the reigning Scudetto holders, with Betis pipping them to the Switzerland international’s signature.

Although Inter must look elsewhere to strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s backline, they’ve done solid work retaining their esteemed first-team stars. After ironing out the final details of Lautaro Martinez’s contract extension, the Nerazzurri are close to tying Denzel Dumfries down to a new four-year deal.

Dumfries has reportedly accepted the club’s proposal, intended to keep him at Inter until 2028.
