Francesco Totti reported that he may be open to rejoin Roma in the future, should the Giallorossi new management offer him a role. Roma’s unforgettable Capitano spent 25 years with the club as a player and two more in a managerial role before abruptly parting ways with the Roman Wolves over disagreements with the club’s former management led by President James Pallotta.
Totti was present at the Mapei Stadium on Wednesday night in occasion of the Coppa Italia Final between Juventus and Atalanta in his current role of Serie A Ambassador. He was interviewed by the Italian state TV RAI during the half time break and was asked about his possible return to Roma now that the club is owned by the Friedkin family and that Josè Mourinho is expected to coach the Giallorossi next season.
“They said that I was called by Mourinho and that I refused, but these are just lies. I was not contacted by anyone,” Totti said. “If they were to call me, considering how much I respect him and the Friedkins, we would sit together and talk.”
Totti left Roma in 2019, announcing his decision in a theatrical press conference held at the Italian Olympic Committee headquarters. He complained about not being involved in decisions by the Pallotta management and stated that he would not consider to come back to Roma until a new ownership would be in charge of the club.
