The transfer market is still open in Turkey, and Galatasaray and Besiktas are trying to sign Kaan Ayhan from Sassuolo before the window ends tomorrow. The former seemed in the lead, but the latter raised their offer yesterday, overtaking their Super Lig rivals.
As per Tuttomercatoweb, the two sides have to convince Sassuolo to sell in the first place. The Neroverdi would be able to replace him only with a free agent. On the other hand, he has started just once in the first five rounds, featuring two more times in short cameos off the bench. Newcomer Martin Erlic supplanted him almost instantly.
Besiktas have lodged a €6M for Ayhan, surpassing Galatasaray, but the race isn’t over. They figure to have come close to his valuation. The Cimbom director Okan Buruk spoke to the publication.
“This negotiation and the one for Mauro Icardi are in progress. We want to conclude them as soon as possible.”
The 27-year-old joined the Emilian side from Fortuna Dusseldorf in a €2.5M move in 2020. He has played in 48 matches afterward, scoring twice. He previously also starred for Schalke 04. The versatile center-back has 49 caps and 5 goals with Turkey.
Our Take on Besiktas and Galatasaray Eyeing Ayhan
If the transfer market were still open, Sassuolo probably would have pulled the trigger already to reinvest the money on another gamble, as Erlic and Gianmarco Ferrari give them plenty of certainties in the back. They have Ruan Tressoldi waiting in the wings, so they might do it anyway. Having four options is the standard, but they are well positioned to take a flier on somebody available. Ironically enough, Federico Peluso, who served such role in past seasons, just announced his retirement.
