Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray have reportedly set their sights on another high-profile arrival from Serie A as they contemplate a significant offer for Roma star Nicola Zalewski. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Istanbul outfit will accelerate their interest in the Poland international in the coming days to beat the clock.
With the transfer window in Turkey closing on September 13, Galatasaray still have three days to sort out their transfer dealings. After securing the services of Victor Osimhen, Okan Buruk’s men are keen to bring the Roma utility man to the Turkish Super Lig. Meanwhile, their arch-rivals Fenerbahce have landed Filip Kostic.
Osimhen and Kostic have joined the two most popular Turkis clubs on loan from Napoli and Juventus, respectively. In contrast to these deals, the Turks are ready to sign Zalewski permanently to strengthen their squad after failing to qualify for the Champions League proper.
Roma could be open to selling the 22-year-old. They tried to arrange a swap deal with Napoli involving Zalewski and Cyril Ngonge toward the end of the summer transfer window. However, the agreement failed to materialize.
Nonetheless, it shows the club’s willingness to give up their homegrown wingback. Zalewski has been a first-team regular for Roma under Daniele De Rossi. But his performances have often flattered to deceive. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Giallorossi accept Galatasaray’s approach.
Zalewski came off the bench as Roma held Juventus to a 0-0 draw at the Allianz Stadium on the stroke of September’s international break. That could be his final appearance for the Stadio Olimpico side.
