Gasperini Admits It Will Be Challenging to Keep Hojlund

Gian Piero Gasperini rejoiced for the win over Roma and took stock of the future of Rasmus Hojlund in his post-game remarks to Rai’s TV show Calcio Totale after defeating the Giallorossi 3-1 (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“These points improve our position in the standings and give us a chance in the final seven matches. They are meaningful especially because they came against a strong side. We were good in every aspect. We were concentrated and executed our game plan, conceding little to the opponents.”

Gasperini dished on what he considered Atalanta’s secret to staying at the top for a long time.

“It has happened because of everybody’s work. Some footballers have been together for many years. This gives us an advantage in terms of organization. Then the proper motivation comes from the environment, the club, and the objectives we achieved along the way.”

Gasperini was quizzed about whether Hojlund would benefit from spending another season in Bergamo.

“From the technical standpoint and in other areas, I have seen very few strikers that are as strong as him at 20 years old. He has considerable room for improvement, for instance in the air, inside the box, or in the making the final pass. Nowadays, once this type of player emerges, the top European clubs generally swoop in with offers that are hard to turn down for a team like Atalanta.”

La Dea acquired the Dane from Sturm Graz for €17.2M last summer. He has bagged 7 goals and provided three assists in 27 Serie A matches so far. On top of all the main Italian outfits, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are said to be keen on the prodigy.
