Gasperini Dishes on De Ketelaere, Scamacca, and Lookman

Gian Piero Gasperini commented on a few of his players following the first stretch of the season in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Charles De Ketelaere has some traits I’m convinced I can work on. He’s highly regarded already, so he was an easy bet. I saw him as a striker right away because he’s gratified by what he does offensively. It’s his nature, even though he works hard. That was a surprise to us. We didn’t think he ran that much. He’s an intelligent, alert, and high-character guy. We have to help him get more excited and emotionally attached to the team.”

Gasperini dished on Gianluca Scamacca.

“He has everything to become Italy’s no.9 for the Euros: physique, shooting prowess, and ability in the air. However, he must add fire, ambition, and fighting spirit.”

The coach reprimanded Ademola Lookman.

“He walks too much and runs only when he has the ball on his feet. He settles for just scoring, but he does it less that way. He proved in Lisbon that he could play with great continuity if he wanted to.”

Gasperini explained why Emil Holm and Mitchel Bakker aren’t regulars.

“They are behind because the defensive phase is crucial in their roles.”

Finally, the manager heaped praise on Giorgio Scalvini.

“He’s an all-around player. He finished the Lazio game in the attack. Sometimes I think I don’t compliment him enough and am too demanding, but he’s only 20. He could become a leader for any team.”
