As if there were any doubts, Gian Piero Gasperini will continue to manage Atalanta in the long term. The coach has added one more season to his contract, which now runs through 2024. He has helmed the Bergamaschi since 2016, leading them to three straight Champions League berths.

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi spoke to Sky Sport after the Venezia game: “We formalized the extension with Gasperini this morning, which includes an option for the 2024-2025 season. We had reached agreement a while ago, but he had to find the time to put pen-to-paper. This is proof that he believes in our project and that we fully trust our coach. We are happy to announce it after an important home victory.”

Gasperini commented: “I thank this team that is giving me major satisfactions. It goes beyond football. We have a special connection that has lasted for a long time.” The gaffer has coached 205 matches in Bergamo, tallying 112 wins, 52 draws, and 41 losses.

The executive weighed in on the transfer market, in particular on their target Jeremie Boga: “He is a great player of a team we are friends with. We are happy with our squad, but we will exploit the opportunities that might present themselves. Atalanta try to get better in every window.” Gasperini addressed the matter too: “I do not ask for specific names, but for contributors in certain roles.”

The gaffer downplayed La Dea’s title chances ahead of the clash with Napoli: “We are not there yet. They are certainly in the running, considering what they showed in the first 14 games. We have not acquired such maturity and dimension yet, but we are close in the standings. We are curious to see if we could measure up with them, but we are not at their level yet.”
