Gasperini Pleased with Ability to Manage Final Stages in Atalanta Win

Atalanta claimed their sixth win in eight Serie A games at the expense of Fiorentina on Sunday. Speaking to the media postgame, La Dea coach Gian Piero Gasperini would have preferred another goal, but was happy with the result.

“I do not want to get used to 1-0 victories, I had rather hoped that to close that game with another goal to remove a bit of the pathos, but I am still happy because the team knew how to manage the final stages well” Gian Piero Gasperini

Ademola Lookman scored the lone goal at the hour mark to put Atalanta on 20 points. The Bergamaschi have won three of their six games this season by a 1-0 scoreline.

Without European football this season, Atalanta can put their focus on domestic football. It is showing through their performances so far. The Bergamo-based team has let in just three goals, which has played a large part to where they are.

Things will get more interesting over the next three games for Atalanta. They will face high-flying Udinese as well as Sassuolo and Lazio in what will be a demanding run of fixtures.
