Gasperini Talks Hojlund Future and Defensive Targets

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini discussed Rasmus Hojlund, Atalanta’s transfer market strategies, and a few of his players from their pre-season retreat in Clusone to DAZN and Sky. He began by addressing the Manchester United target.

“Sincerely, I don’t know if he’ll stay. The transfer market is unpredictable. €70M? I hope we could get even €80/90/100M. There are quality players that struggle to find the right collocation and youngsters that have an important valuation right away.”

“He’s one of the best prospects in his role already, if not the top one. I think he would benefit from another season here. He undoubtedly has great skills, but also a lot of room for improvement. Both are noticeable. He has to work to get better to become one of the strongest strikers in the world.”

On top of addressing Hojlund, Gasperini was quizzed about Emil Holm.

“We have many options in his role. We’ll have to make choices and sign players that allow us to make an evident leap because we are already deep.”

The gaffer played coy about Isak Hien.

“These are the type of opportunities the transfer market presents. I have the sense it started only partially and for a handful of teams. We’ll try to seize the deals compatible with our means.”

Gasperini hasn’t extended his contract but will stay put.

“We haven’t had the time for that, but a handshake is all that’s needed.”
