Alberto Gilardino has hailed a ‘dynamic‘ Atalanta team ahead of Genoa’s trip to the Gewiss Stadium on Saturday evening. Both teams finished the last Serie A round as bottom-half teams, intensifying pressure on both managers to take three points ahead of October’s international break.
Genoa slumped to a woeful 3-0 home defeat to Juventus, extending their four-game winless league run to four matches (D1, L3). As for Atalanta, they salvaged a point against Bologna through Lazar Samardzic’s last-gasp equalizer at Renato Dall’Ara.
Unlike La Dea, who demolished Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in midweek UEFA Champions League action to regain confidence, Genoa have had a week to rest and prepare for this fixture. Fresh legs could be the visitors’ best chance to halt a seven-match winless run in Bergamo.
However, Gilardino is fully aware of the scale of the task awaiting Genoa later today.
“Atalanta is a complete team in every aspect. They have a truly dynamic way of playing, great physicality, players who can determine the outcome of a match, and players with pace on the flanks,” he said in the pre-game conference, as reported by TMW.
“They’re a team that gives you a headache, but at the same time, we want to battle against a team that will play a different kind of championship, but we want to be in it and try our best,” the Genoa boss maintained.
Atalanta looked like their former selves in that match against Shakhtar. That’s not music to Gilardino’s ears, with Genoa at risk of entering the international break in the bottom three in case of another loss.
