Genoa Kicking the Tires on Former Tottenham Staple

Genoa continue to weigh signing a free agent after a series of injuries in the midfield, and the latest name to fall on their radar is Dele Alli, who’s out of contract after spending time with Besiktas. They are pondering also Antonio Candreva, who seemed very close in recent days, but they have reservations about his age, Primo Canale reports.

The Englishman starred for Tottenham from 2015 to 2022, collecting 181 appearances and 51 goals. He eventually fell out of favor and transferred to Everton on a free move, without doing much. He spent the most recent season at Besiktas, scoring twice in 15 appearances.

Genoa tracked Yusuf Yazici before focusing on Alli and Candreva, but he accepted an offer from Olympiacos instead. The Grifone lost Rulan Malinovskyi for months due to a gruesome ankle injury. Instead, Morten Frendrup and Milan Badelj just suffered thigh strains. They’ll be very depleted against Atalanta on Sunday.

Per Calciomercato, the Rossoblù will make a decision about adding a free agent early in the break. In the meantime, they’ll reinstate Filippo Melegoni, who hadn’t been part of the seasonal squad list so far. He played on loan at Standard Liege and Reggiana in recent campaigns. He was supposed to leave again last summer but didn’t find a landing spot.

They need a man and can’t be too picky, as those players aren’t with a team for a reason. The latter still had some juice last season and would be a sound deputy for Junior Messias, who’s also frequently on the shelf.
