Andriy Shevchenko’s experience as Genoa coach is over as the club officially confirmed to have sacked the Ukrainian manager. Genoa will be led ad interim by former Lazio and Crotone player Abdoulay Konko, who will be supported by another former Serie A star, Roberto Murgita.
Shevchenko’s replacement is expected to be Italian-German manager Bruno Labbadia, who has been insistently linked with the Rossoblu over the past few days – when Shevchenko’s job had become at risk.
Genoa’s encouraging performance against Milan in Coppa Italia – with the Rossoblu losing during extra times but holding their own against the Rossoneri – seemed to have bought Shevchenko more time, but the Grifone‘s newly-established management and President Alberto Zangrillo ultimately decided to pull the trigger and conclude the Ukrainian’s experience in the port city.
Andriy Shevchenko had replaced Davide Ballardini at the helm of the Grifone on November 7. He remained in charge of Genoa for 11 games, during which he recorded no league wins and collected seven losses. His only victory came in a Coppa Italia tilt against Serie A bottom-ranked Salernitana.
