Genoa Play Down Release Clause in In-Demand Star Contract

Genoa starlet Radu Dragusin has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in European football. He has drawn interest from numerous domestic and foreign clubs, including former employers Juventus.

However, Genoa are reluctant to negotiate the 21-year-old’s departure. Talks of a €30m release clause have sparked optimism among his suitors. But according to Fabrizio Romano, the Luigi Ferraris outfit has denied its existence.

Draguis joined Genoa on a season-long loan from Juventus in the summer of 2022/23. After helping the Griffin secure Serie A promotion in his first year in Liguria, he earned a permanent contract in the summer. The Romania international has maintained his sterling form this term.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed. Juventus are already keen to bring him back to Turin. Though Bianconeri’s interest must be flattering, Dragusin recently admitted he’s ‘not thinking’ about moving back to the Allianz Stadium. Instead, he played a staring role as Genoa held Massimiliano Allegri’s side to a 1-1 draw on Friday.

Alberto Gilardino heavily relies on the highly-rated defender and can’t afford to lose him in January. Following a decent form at the start of the season, Genoa have slipped to the bottom half of the table. Only four points separate them from 18th-placed Empoli.

On that basis, a season-long fight against the drop looms. Genoa need all hands on deck to avoid that ominous scenario, with Dragusin one of the most significant pieces of the puzzle. Then, everything could change in the summer. \
