Genoa Tipped to Attempt Luring Veteran Milan Defender

Genoa struggled mightily defensively in their Serie A return and are considering making a run at Simon Kjaer to bolster their rearguard. Milan are on the verge of signing Marco Pellegrino and will soon have five center-backs on their squad.

According to Primo Canale, the Rossoblù will try to entice the veteran with the promise of a regular role. The 34-year-old has made 70 appearances with the Rossoneri in the past three years. However, he didn’t resume being a regular after tearing his ACL.

Kjar currently figures to be fourth in the pecking order behind Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, and Pierre Kalulu, and Genoa will probe whether that could prompt him to leave.

The Dane also starred for Palermo and Roma in Serie A, while he left Atalanta just six months after his arrival. The Grifone have only Mattia Bani and Davide Biraschi as experienced options in the back. The latter played on loan in Turkey last season.

Our Take on Genoa, Milan, and Kjaer

The Rossoblù should definitely add a reliable center-back down the stretch. His departure would be a natural consequence of how actively the Rossoneri searched for a new man in his role. Though, it remains to be seen how deep they want to be and whether the deal is financially viable considering his wages.
