Gianluigi Donnarumma Set To Complete His Move to PSG This Weekend

Gianluigi Donnarumma is on the verge of completing his move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. The Italian goalkeeper refused to commit his long-term future to AC Milan and will become a free agent at the end of the month.

According to Eurosport, Donnarumma will undergo medicals this weekend before putting pen to paper on a lucrative €12million deal at the Parc des Princes. Currently away with Italy at the rescheduled Euro 2020, Donnarumma will complete his move to the Ligue 1 heavyweights amid the tournament.

The 22-year-old initially emerged as a transfer target for Juventus, but he turned his back on Turin when PSG came knocking on the door. Despite Keylor Navas’ impressive showings in Paris, the former Ligue 1 champions are keen on adding another top-class keeper to their star-studded cast.

Donnarumma has become a household name in European football after making his senior debut at the San Siro in October 2015 at the age of 16. He has since gone from strength to strength, clocking up 251 appearances for the Rossoneri across all competitions.

Milan fought tooth and nail to convince their homegrown star to pledge his future to the club but to no avail. Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola has been adamant his client will leave Lombardy for a high-profile deal this summer. It seems he has eventually managed to secure the Italian first-choice shot-stopper a move to Paris.

Donnarumma’s rejection has left Paolo Maldini and the club hierarchy fuming. The Rossoneri technical director has refused to hide his frustration with the way Gigio parted ways with the club that fired him to prominence.

“It’s difficult to accept,” the 52-year-old club legend said when confirming Donnarumma’s exit.

“I realize, but it’s also increasingly difficult to see a career in one team. We must respect those who gave so much to Milan and remember Donnarumma did not lack respect for us.

“It can happen that at times you have to take different paths. I can only wish him the best.”

Milan recently signed the French goalkeeper Mike Maignan as Donnarumma’s long-term replacement. The 25-year-old was a key component as Lille won the Ligue 1 title in 2020/21.
