Olivier Giroud has been reportedly on the verge of extending his contract with Milan multiple times in recent weeks, but the parties need more time to put the finishing touches on their agreement. The Frenchman remains highly likely to stick with the Rossoneri.
According to Sky, the marksman asked for €3.7M plus add-ons, while the team offered €3.5M. The management will likely come close to the request in the next round of talks. It hasn’t been scheduled yet, but it could be the final one.
His agent Michael Manuello commented to Calciomercato after Thursday’s meeting.
“We’ll see. We are neither close nor distant. Sometimes it takes just five centimeters to score, and you are either in or out. You never know. It’s up to them.”
Giroud joined Milan on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2021. He has bagged 24 goals and provided 10 assists since joining and was highly instrumental in their title run. He too has been affected by their issues this season, as he has hit the net just 6 times in 19 Serie A matches.
While he alternated with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2021/2022, he had to shoulder most of the offensive load in the ongoing campaign. The Swedish star missed time after knee surgery, while Divock Origi hasn’t been consistently healthy and effective enough to be a reliable deputy.
