Giroud Dedicates Goal to Saelemaekers, Urges Milan to Focus on Serie A

Thanks to a match winning brace by Olivier Giroud, Milan comfortably cruised past a toothless RB Salzburg unit at the San Siro. The Frenchman’s goals on either side of half-time sandwiched Rade Krunic’s 46th minute header, before Junior Messias capped off the win in stoppage time with a commendable individual effort.

Striker Giroud spoke to Prime Video (via Calciomercato) after the match and shed his delight on the team’s performance. He urged the Rossoneri to maintain their composure and now focus on Serie A.

“Perfect evening for me and for the team, I’m proud of our spirit. We wanted to have a great match and we did it. Last year we were in the group of death, it was a good experience but we were a bit frustrated. This year passing was one of the main objectives, we can concentrate on Serie A. They pressed a lot today.”

Giroud then revealed why he did the ‘A’ in his celebration after his opening goal in the 14th minute.

“I did the A for Saelemaekers. I promised him that I would dedicate my joy to him.”

Saelemaekers received on knock on his knee during Milan’s encounter against Empoli last month. Tests showed that the Belgian suffered a partial tear to the medial collateral ligament (MCL, ruling him out for a minimum of 8 weeks and outing his World Cup dream in danger.

Milan will now shift their attention back to the league, where they welcome Spezia on the weekend.
