Cristiano Giuntoli touched on several topics tied to Juventus and the recent summer window in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“There are no financial tricks, and you have to consider a five-year perspective. We had to lower the payroll and the average age. We’re building a new course brick by brick and have one of the youngest squads in Serie A. Winning is the most important thing but not the only one. We have to balance the books and stay competitive. Results matter but also you achieve them. We have to start from the quality of the performances.”
Giuntoli revisited their chase of Thiago Motta.
“Bologna had done so well, so we weren’t the only ones after him. We played our cards and fully embraced his idea of football. He’s mild-mannered and very empathetic and has great personality. He lives for this job and is destined for great things. The plan B was a foreign coach that worked in Europe and still does.”
“Riccardo Calafiori is a regret for the whole Serie A not just us. We have to interrogate ourselves since we didn’t have the strength to keep a player of his caliber here. All the top teams signed new defenders.”
Giuntoli is confident about Dusan Vlahovic renewing his deal.
“He has an important ceiling, and so he’ll never be a problem. His extension is an objective, and we’ll get it done. He’s worth and earns a lot, but he’s an asset for us.”
The exec touched on Federico Chiesa.
“We handled the situation with clarity and simplicity. We were honest with his entourage and looked of the right solution. He’s a very strong player, and we wish him well.”
