Goalie Josep Martinez Joining Inter from Genoa Anyway

Inter had to change the terms of the Josep Martinez deal late and pay a little more than they would have liked since the inclusion of a makeweight fell through. But the Spanish goalkeeper is moving to Milan nonetheless, Mediaset informed.

Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez alluded to increased requests in a recent interview, but the Nerazzurri will disburse pretty much what had been agreed upon for a while. The shot-stopper will transfer in a €13.5M move plus €2M add-ons.

Inter attempted to insert Gaetano Pio Oristanio in the Josep Martinez operation. However, the young attacker waffled and signaled he preferred joining Venezia. The Grifone weren’t enticed by the alternatives and asked for cash only.

The 26-year-old is a product of the Barcelona academy and transferred to Las Palmas when he was 19. He was acquired by RB Leipzig four years later but was a backup in Germany. He blossomed in Serie B in 2022/2023 following a €3.5M move and measured up in the top flight last season. The goalie allowed 43 goals and kept 8 clean sheets in 36 matches.

Our Take on Inter and Josep Martinez

The only thing left to be determined is whether it’ll be an immediate permanent acquisition or a loan with an obligation to buy since his contract only technically expires in 2025 thanks to a club option. It’s a lukewarm outcome for both clubs. Genoa might have gotten more money elsewhere, while the Nerazzurri would have been better off onboarding a prodigy who needed a little of seasoning, but that would have been more expensive.
