Gosens Reveals Transfer Dilemma, Hopes to Emulate Legendary Brehme at Inter

Inter made two advances in January to reinforce their already quality-rich squad with the acquisitions of Robin Gosens and Felipe Caicedo.

In an exclusive interview with German outlet Kicker, the former Atalanta man has admitted to thinking about moving to Newcastle United instead, given the lucrative offer involved that he says would have ‘secured a few more generations’ of his family.

His January transfer dilemma was finally put to bed when Inter came along. The Nerazzurri captured the services of the Germany international on an initial loan deal, with the option to make it permanent at the end of the season.

He said: “I thought about it, but I never really considered a change. I find it very human to think about it. If you can earn multiple amounts for the same job in a different location? Show me someone who just says ‘no, thank you’.

It’s not just about me, I could probably have secured a few more generations of my family with this money.”

The left wing-back clearly has aspirations to play for Europe’s elite teams and mentioned of Inter’s charm and allure in making the transfer decision.

“Inter play the most beautiful football in Serie A, and I’m hardly the only person who thinks so,” he declared.

On being quizzed upon the kind of legacy he wants to leave at Inter – similar to the one of legendary German left wing-back Andreas Brehme who graced the Nerazzurri colors for four seasons between 1988 and 1992 – Gosens said he’d like to ‘write as many pages into the club’s history books’.

Speaking of comparisons with Brehme, he said: “He’s a god at Inter. If I reached that status, it would mean that I did very well. I would like to write as many pages into the history of Inter as I can.”

Gosens spent five seasons in Bergamo, etching 29 goals in 157 caps for Atalanta.

He has been largely sidelined this season due to a hamstring injury, failing to appear on the football pitch since the end of September last year.
