The Greatest of All Has Left Us: Maradona Dies at 60

The Greatest of All has left us. Diego Armando Maradona died today at 60 in his house in Buenos Aires due to a cardiac arrest. The news was initially reported by Argentine-based daily Clarìn and started to circulate wildly until it was tragically confirmed.

Only three weeks ago, Maradona had surgery for a blood clot on his brain. The intervention was successful, and he seemed to be recovering well, though his general conditions were being reported as “sensitive.”

Arguably the greatest footballer ever and an authentic legend in the game, the former Barcelona, Napoli, and Argentina star played in Italy since 1984 to 1991. He won two Italian titles with the Partenopei and became almost an object of veneration in Napoli.

Maradona also led Argentina to winning the 1986 World Cup, a tournament in which he rose to global football stardom as he scored what would be eventually dubbed as the “Goal of the Century,” dribbling seven English players before slotting the ball home.

There are just no words to add. Our condolences to Diego’s Family, as well as to the whole world of football. The beautiful game has lost its greatest performer.
