Gudmundsson Not Close to Leaving Genoa at This Point

Albert Gudmundsson was expected to be a hot commodity this summer following a great maiden Serie A season, but there’s not much traction regarding his departure at this stage. Inter are struggling to open room for another addition. Plus, it won’t be easy to come to terms with Genoa, which demand a massive fee for their star. In addition, he could stand trial for sexual harassment in Iceland in the coming months. Some teams might not want to have to deal with that.

Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez updated on the attacker to Arabic site WinWin (via SOSFanta).

“We received several inquiries but no official bid for him for now. There’s a lot of interest. We rejected a €30M offer from Fiorentina in January. We didn’t do it because it was insufficient, but rather because it arrived at a time when we needed him to continue fighting to finish in the top ten. Keeping him was essential for our objective.”

“We haven’t received requests from the Saudi Pro League for any of our players. Many sides have asked for info about Gudmundsson, but there’s nothing concrete at the moment. We are obviously open to listening to every proposal. However, when we decide to sell a player, it’s because we have an alternative in hand to replace him in terms of quality, performance, and behavior. We’re happy that other clubs are noticing the work we’re doing.”

Genoa have been able to retain Vitinha from Olympique Marseille permanently following a loan spell by shelling out €16M.
