There’s a heavyweight clash awaiting defending Serie A champions Inter later this evening as they head to the Stadio Olimpico to meet Roma. With Napoli already two points clear and Juventus narrowly edging Lazio last night, Simone Inzaghi’s men have little margin for error to keep up with the pace.
The Inter manager fully understands the significance of taking three points and doesn’t want to take chances fielding an experimental line-up. According to Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri will come at Roma at full bore after welcoming star midfielder Nicolo Barella back to the squad following a month-long spell on the sidelines.
Barella will regain his place in the Inter starting XI alongside Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu. The Italian’s return to the fold means Davide Frattesi will drop to the bench. Meanwhile, Piotr Zielinski may not feature after picking up a hamstring injury during international duty with Poland.
Inzaghi will trust Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez to lead the line, with the latter overcoming a minor fitness problem that hindered his playing time for France during the break. Thuram has been vital for Inter this season, netting seven goals in Serie A, including a match-winning hat-trick against Torino last time out.
At the back, Francesco Acerbi will team up with Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni at the expense of Stefan de Vrij. There’s no doubt that Federico Dimarco will be on the left. Matteo Darmian would probably start ahead of Denzel Dumfries, whose future at Inter is still hanging in the balance.
