Hummels Not Joining Bologna, Roma and Milan in the Race

Bologna waited for an answer for a while but, in the end, Mats Hummels will be playing elsewhere next season. The veteran didn’t say no per se, but he asked for more time to give his answer, and the team elected to move on, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.

Roma and Milan would be prospective landing spots for the German international if they sold a center-back. The Giallorossi took an interest early on but have been unable to offload Chris Smalling yet. The Rossoblù will have to keep searching for a proper Riccardo Calafiori replacement.

Bologna put the pedal to the metal for Toulouse’s Logan Costa following the Hummels news. They have offered €13M plus €2M add-ons, while the French team demands €18M. He blossomed in the past season, racking up 38 appearances in Ligue 1 and Europa League combined.

The Felsinei are also keeping tabs on Jaka Bijol. However, they consider Udinese’s demand excessive at this stage. They had touched base with Mario Hermoso too recently, but he turned them down to stay a free agent.

Our Take on Bologna and Hummels

It would have been nice to add a seasoned veteran with still something left in the tank, but they are in a decent spot as they have the two starters in place, Sam Beukema and Jhon Lucumì, and they aren’t green. They should stick to their bread and butter and bring in another talented player who would grow over the years. They surely aren’t low on cash.
