“I Love You, Chris!” – Lukaku Dedicates Belgium Goal to Eriksen

Belgium opened their Euro 2020 tournament with a bang as they easily disposed of Russia in St. Petersburg on Saturday night. The Diables Rouges put three past an inexperienced Russian side and the lion’s share was grabbed by Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored twice and dedicated his first winning effort to teammate Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen collapsed to the ground in the earlier afternoon match between Denmark and Finland and was resuscitated by his side’s medical staff. He laid motionless for several minutes as the whole stadium worried for his life, before finally regaining consciousness and being carried off on a stretcher.

After opening the scoring 10 minutes into the game with Russia, Lukaku had a touching dedication for his teammate as he run towards a TV camera and shouted into the lens: “Chris! Chris! I love you!

Lukaku and Eriksen have been playing together at Inter since the Dane joined the Nerazzurri in January 2020. He has struggled to adapt to Antonio Conte’s system of play and seemed to be on the verge of leaving Inter multiple times before finally finding a starting spot and contributing to the Beneamata’s victory of the Scudetto.

The Antwerp-born Lukaku, on the other hand, has been making an impact for Inter from the very first day of his experience in Nerazzurro, which started in the summer of 2019. He has collected 72 caps, scoring 42 goals so far.

Based on what seen tonight in St. Petersburg, he seems to be on the right track to lead Belgium as far as possible in the tournament.
